Many countries around the world have their own versions of fried bread or similar flatbreads, such as Native American Frybread in the U.S., Sopapillas in Mexico, Bhatura in India, and Mandazi in East Africa. These breads, like bannock, are often made with simple ingredients and fried or cooked in oil, showcasing a global tradition of pan-fried or deep-fried bread across different cultures.

Widely known as an “Indian Taco,” West Coast Bannock has reclaimed and reimagined this dish with a twist of its own. In addition to our classic bannock, we’ve become known for our signature stuffed bannock tacos — a fresh take that fills the bannock instead of topping it. By combining traditional bread with bold, modern flavours, we’re bridging the gap between contemporary and Indigenous food cultures.
- 07
West Coast Bannock often collaborates with local Indigenous artists and craftspeople, highlighting their work on their social media platforms and sometimes incorporating their artwork in events or promotions. We work closely with Heilsuk artist K.C. Hall who designed the logo!
